Sarbananda Sonowal speaks to Amit Shah regarding Assam-Mizoram border situation

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah over telephone and apprised about the situation at the Assam-Mizoram border and steps taken by the state government.

Sonowal requested the Union Home Minister to take necessary steps by the central government to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas and assured that the state government would follow the directives of the centre in managing the situation.

Moreover, the Assam Chief Minister reviewed the current situation of Assam-Mizoram border at a meeting held at his conference room at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati on Saturday evening.

State Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah apprised Sonowal about the present situation there and DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta informed about the steps taken for keeping law and order situation in control.

The Assam Chief Minister directed the top officials to maintain peaceful environment and keep brotherhood and harmony intact at the Assam-Mizoram border areas.

Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Paban Borthakur, ADGP (Law and Order) G.P. Singh, Commissioner and Secretary of Home Department G.D Tripathy were also present in the meeting.

Amidst the rising tension along the Assam-Mizoram border, miscreants bombed another government school at Upper Painom area in Assam’s Cachar district on Saturday.

There is no report of any casualty in the incident, but the school building has been destroyed following bomb blast.

The incident took place at Upper Painom village near Hawaithang area located along the interstate border. According to the reports, locals heard three big sounds at around 1-30 am on Saturday.

The building of Upper Painom Lower Primary school was destroyed in bomb blast.

Following the incident, top police officials and Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district rushed to the area and took stock the situation.

Confirming the incident Cachar district Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said that, the incident took place at Upper Painom LP school.

On Oct 24, a school building was destroyed following a blast triggered by miscreants at Khulicherra area in Cachar district.

Tension escalated along the Assam-Mizoram border after several people were injured following clashes broke out between two groups of both states on Oct 17 at Lailapur area in Assam’s Cachar district along Assam-Mizoram border.
