Lucknow, Apr 17 (IBNS): Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday confirmed that actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam Sinha will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow seat.

The SP fielded her against Union Home Minister BJP leader Rajnath Singh from the crucial seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference, Akhilesh Yadav said: "I am welcoming Poonam Sinha to the party."

"She will contest from Lucknow," he said.

Poonam joined the SP on Tuesday in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav.

Shatrughan Sinha quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined the Congress recently.

He had been a part of the BJP for several years.

The SP and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party are contesting the Lok Sabha polls in UP together.
