Rajasthan crisis: Speaker to move SC after Sachin Pilot camp gets relief over disqualification
Jaipur/IBNS: Leading the desert state to a constitutional crisis amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi on Wednesday said he will knock the doors of the Supreme Court after his disqualification notices served to 19 rebel Congress MLAs were put on hold by the high court.
"It is well-defined by the Supreme Court that only the Speaker can decide on anti-defection. The Speaker had full authority to send notice. It can be judicially reviewed only later, after the Speaker's decision," Joshi said as quoted by NDTV.
The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday ruled no rebel Congress MLAs including Sachin Pilot can be disqualified till Jul 24.
The high court will on Friday pass a verdict on the pleas filed by the Pilot camp against the disqualification notices.
The Congress government in Rajasthan plunged into a political crisis more than a week ago after then Deputy Chief Minister Pilot flew to Delhi revolting against CM Ashok Gehlot.
Pilot claimed he had the support of 30 MLAs who would walk out of the government with him.
After Pilot skipped two consecutive meetings of MLAs chaired by Gehlot, the 42-year old leader was sacked as the Deputy CM and the party's state president.
Gehlot has claimed the support of 109 lawmakers including 107 from his own party and two from a regional outfit.
