Rahul Gandhi visits Odisha, targets BJP, ruling BJD

Bhubaneswar, Jan 25 (IBNS): Visiting Odisha, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday tried to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Biju Janata Dal of the state by saying that they follow the "same Gujarat model" in which there is a "deal" between the Chief Ministerial candidate and industrialists and governance is later handed over to the key bureaucrats.

"The BJP model and the BJD model is the same as the Gujarat model. It's a very simple deal between the CM candidate and industrialists who fund his campaign. CM hands the state over to key bureaucrats who run it: Congress President," Gandhi said while addressing at a town hall meeting.

Gandhi also attacked the BJP's ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and said: "RSS believes that it should be the only institution in the country. The idea is to systematically penetrate all institutions. We believe that institutions should be independent."

With the country heading to vote to elect a new Prime Minister this year, Gandhi tried to corner PM Narendra Modi over the issue of job creation in the nation.

He said : "The banking system is necessary to create jobs, but, today it is completely captured by the crony capitalists. Young entrepreneurs should have similar access to banking system as Mr. Anil Ambani does."

Gandhi said: "Today governments are under the impression that agriculture is a weight. Huge number of jobs are going to come from agriculture if India rethinks agriculture."

Gandhi also accused Narendra Modi of 'massacring' Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

"MSMEs are the ones which will create jobs. What is being done for the last 5 years is a massacre of MSMEs through Demonetisation and GST. Instead of seeing MSMEs as our asset, Mr. Modi destroyed them," he said.

Gandhi was recently visiting Amethi, his Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

He is currently in Odisha.
