Rahul Gandhi to file nomination from Amethi, will hold roadshow

Amethi, Apr 10 (IBNS): A day before the commencement of Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday will file his nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi constituency, the bastion of the grand old party.

Apart from Amethi, Rahul this time is also fighting from Kerala's Wayanad.

Showing strength, the Congress chief will also hold a roadshow in Amethi along with his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. While Sonia is the chairperson of United Progressive Alliance, Priyanka is the Congress chief in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

BJP's Smriti Irani, who was defeated in Amethi in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, will once again face Rahul in 2019.

Rahul, the outgoing MP of Amethi, faced criticism from Kerala's ruling party Left for contesting from Wayanad at a time the opposition parties are trying to come close to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Centre.

However, after filing his nomination from Wayanad, the Congress supremo had said he won't speak a word against the CPI-M during his campaigning.

Stating his reason to fight from Kerala, Rahul had said he wanted to give a message to south India which he feels was overlooked by the BJP government.

The Lok Sabha elections will continue in seven phases from Apr 11 to May 19.

The results will be declared on May 23.
