Rahul Gandhi likely to file nomination for his second Lok Sabha seat Wayanad on Apr 3

New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to file his nomination for the Lok Sabha seat of Wayanad on Apr 3, party sources said on Monday.

The Congress on Sunday announced that the party president would contest the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad as well as Amethi.

The decision is seen as an effort by the Congress to strengthen its electoral base in south India, especially Kerala which has 20 Lok Sabha seats.

Congress had won eight Lok Sabha seats in Kerala in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Its ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) won two seats while one seat was won by Kerala Congress (Mani) and one by Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).

The sources said that the Congress president is expected to file his nomination from Wayanad on Wednesday as Apr 4 is the last date for filing of nomination for the seat.
