Rahul Gandhi attacks Modi over survey result showing India most dangerous for women

New Delhi, Jun 26 (IBNS): In the wake of a survey result that suggested India is the most dangerous country for women due to high risk of sexual harassment, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has taken a shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent video on practicing yoga.

Holding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government responsible for the present scenario, Rahul tweeted, "While our PM tiptoes around his garden making Yoga videos, India leads Afghanistan, Syria & Saudi Arabia in rape & violence against women. What a shame for our country!"

In a survey, which was conducted by Thomson Reuters Foundation, India ranked top as a country where women are unsafe followed by Afghanistan and Syria in the second and third spots respectively.

The US, which is the only western country in the top 10, featured after nine countries.

The researchers had asked the respondents about which country among the 193 United Nations member states they feel dangerous for women.

The respondents were also asked about which country was the worst in terms of healthcare, economic resources, cultural or traditional practices, sexual violence and harassment, non-sexual violence and trafficking.

According to the survey result, India came out as the most dangerous country for women due to high risks of acid attacks, female genital mutilation, child marriage and physical abuse.

A similar survey was conducted in 2011 when India was the fourth most dangerous country for women.

However, Indian Ministry of Woman and Child Development refused to comment on the survey results.
