R-Day: Security tightened across Jammu & Kashmir

According to reports, hundreds of police and paramilitary troopers have been deployed here in the summer capital, who were conducting thorough
frisking of civilians, private and public vehicles.

The security men have established dozens of checkpoints across the city while armoured vehicles have also been placed at sensitive junctions.

In Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of the region, additional numbers of forces men were deployed sensitive locations while paramilitary troopers were also seen on the top floors of several buildings adjacent to the Clock Tower and Palladium Cinema, which houses a bunker of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range, Abdul Gani Mir, said tight security arrangements have been made across the valley as the country gears up to celebrate Republic Day on Monday.

The Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar is the main venue for Republic Day celebrations and all roads leading to it will be sealed on Monday.

The sharpshooters have already taken position on high rise buildings around the stadium.

The forces, this time are taking extra-precautions following Obama's visit to New Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day.

All the pro-freedom and militant groups have called for shutdown on the Republic Day in Kashmir.
