Pune Porsche crash: Minor claims family driver was behind the wheel on accident night

Pune/IBNS: In a new twist, the 17-year-old boy, who was involved in the Pune crash that claimed the lives of two techies, has now claimed that his family driver was behind the wheel when the accident occurred on Sunday early morning, media reports said.

The minor’s two friends, who were with him at the time of the accident, have supported his claims.

The teenager, son of real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, was in the car that rammed into a motorbike, killing two people.

The new version comes a day after Pune Juvenile Justice Board cancelled the bail granted to him and ordered him to be sent to a juvenile remand.

After the fresh claim, the family driver, allegedly driving the Porsche on the fateful night, is being questioned by the police again on Thursday.

A man and a woman, riding a motorbike, were killed in the accident after the supercar hit their vehicle in Pune's Kalyani Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday.

The two riders were flung into the air under the impact of the crash, causing them to land on another car. They died instantly. After hitting them, the car crashed into the pavement and came to a halt, said the report.

The Juvenile Justice Board had initially granted him bail within 15 hours of the accident after he was asked to write an essay on road accidents, prompting nationwide outrage.

Apart from a personal bond, a surety, and a 300-word essay on road safety, the boy, the son of a prominent Pune builder, was asked to visit the regional transport office, study all rules and regulations, and give a presentation.

At 17 years and 8 months old, the teenager is four months short of the legal age for driving and the legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25 years.

The father of the Pune teenager had been remanded in police custody for two days by a sessions court in Pune on Wednesday.

The realtor had been charged under Sections 75 (wilful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses) and 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
