President of India and PM Modi condole the demise of Bollywood director Kundan Shah
"Sad to learn of film director Kundan Shah's demise. Best remembered for his "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron" Condolences to his family," the official President of India Twitter handle quoted the President as saying.
Kundan Shah, 69, passed away on Saturday morning, after a cardiac arrest, according to media reports.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day tour of Gujarat,was quoted by the PMO Twitter handle as saying. "Anguished by the passing away of Shri Kundan Shah. He will be remembered for his wonderful usage of humour and satire to showcase the life & struggles of common citizens. My thoughts are with his family & admirers. May his soul rest in peace."
Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted, "W/ the demise of Kundan Shah, India loses a legend of its film industry. Prayers for his soul. Here's a gem of his w/ NFDC, #JaaneBhiDoYaaro."
The Mumbai film fraternity too has been tweeting about Kundan Shah.
"Saddened 2 hear my favourite director Kundan Shah is no more.. i learnt a lot frm him whilst filming kabbhihaankabhina..quiet genius he was," tweeted choreographer and director Farah Khan.
"Saddened to learn that Kundan Shah is no more. Will never forget his genuineness, his cinematic knowledge & his unique sense of humour. RIP," tweeted Farhan Akhtar.
Singer Anup Jalota tweeted, "#KundanShah's #JaaneBhiDoYaaro is Timeless gift to IndianCinema. Shah will be remembered for winning hearts & National Award with 1st movie."
Tweeted film maker Subhash Ghai, "Good bye #kundan shah. We all @FTIIOfficial @Whistling_Woods shall remember u for your great films with us n in history indian cinema.."
Director and writer Sudhir Mishra tweeted, "It's probably wrong but I can't help but imagine Kundan Shah n Renu Saluja meeting n arguing over a cut n maybe Ravi Baswani is mediating!"
"A brave man Kundan Shah, who added vigour to the alternate cinema stream with movies like Jaane bhi do yaaro has left us. Adieux Kundan," tweeted film maker Mahesh Bhatt.
The film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro was Shah's first film as director and starred Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik, Bhakti Barve and Neena Gupta.
‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ (1993) and TV shows like ‘Nukkad’ (1986) and ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’ (1988) were some of his other popular works.
Kundan Shah won the 1984 Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for his work. His movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa won the Filmfare Crtics Award for Best Movie.
Shah studied direction at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.
