Poll: 49 pc turnout in J&K, 61.65 pc in Jharkhand

Srinagar/Ranchi, Dec 14 (IBNS): Voting has ended in the fourth phase for the Assembly elections in both Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand as people decided the fates of leaders who will constitute the new assemblies in both the states on Sunday.

While 49 per cent of the 14.73 lakh voters cast their votes in Jammu and Kashmir, 61.65  percent people exercised their franchise in Jharkhand.

The fourth phase of polling for 18 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and 15 seats in Jharkhand commenced on Sunday morning

In Jammu and Kashmir, the fate of 182 candidates including two chief ministerial aspirants and Speaker of the Assembly were decided by the voters.

Braving chilly weather and defying boycott call by separatists in Jammu and Kashmir, the state witnessed the fourth phase of polling for 18 Assembly constituencies in four districts in the state including Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian and Samba.

Giving details at a press conference, at Banquet Hall Srinagar, the Chief Electoral Officer Umang Naurala told reporters that 49% voters have exercised their franchise in the 4th phase of assembly elections.

Umang Narula said the highest turnout was recorded in Vijaypur Assembly constituency of district Samba while the lowest was recorded in Habba Kadal Assembly constituency of Srinagar district.

In Jharkhand, voting was done in Madhupur, Deogarh (SC), Bagodar, Jamua (SC), Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Bokaro, Chandankyari (SC), Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi and Baghmara.

A total of 43,48,709 people were eligible to cast their votes in Jharkhand to seal the fates of 217 candidates, including 16 women.
