PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Raisina Dialogue 2017

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address at the opening session of the second edition of the Raisina Dialogue to begin on Tuesday at Taj Palace in New Delhi.

The Raisina Dialogue, which is being held from Jan 17–19, 2017, is India’s flagship geo-political conference organized by Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Observer Research Foundation.

The theme of the Dialogue, this year, is "The New Normal: Multilateralism with Multi-Polarity”.

M.J. Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Foreign Minister of Nepal, Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan, Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia and Gowher Rizvi, International Affairs Advisor to Prime Minister of Bangladesh are expected to be part of the inaugural panel.

A video message from the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres will also be played before the inaugural panel.

Foreign Secretary Dr. S. Jaishankar is expected to deliver the theme address.

Among the foreign dignitaries who will be addressing the Dialogue are Boris Johnson, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, UK, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Minister for Regional Development, Sri Lanka, Stephen Harper, former Prime Minister of Canada, Jacques Audibert, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of France, Shunsuke Takei, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr, Commander, Pacific Command and Admiral Michelle Howard, Commander, US Naval Forces, Europe and Africa.

On the concluding day, a one-to-one conversation will be held between Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar and Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan.

The first Raisina Dialogue was held in March 2016, which was attended by 120 foreign participant from nearly 40 countries..

The second edition of the Dialogue is expected to see participation from about 65 countries and more than 250 foreign participants.
