New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to hospitalised Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and took stock of his health.

The Prime Minister wrote on X, "Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life."

Kharge underwent a procedure for pacemaker transplant, said his son Priyank Kharge.

Priyank wrote on X, "The pacemaker implantation procedure for Sri. Kharge was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure and he has been stable after the procedure.

"He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements. Our gratitude for the concern, support and affection extended by all."

The 83-year-old leader was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Kharge is currently the Congress' Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament.
