PM Modi holds all-party meet ahead of Parliament session
New Delhi, Jun 16 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held an all-party meeting, a first after he returned to the office for a second term.
The all-party meeting is a mandatory one before the start of the Parliament session.
The budget session begins Monday and the Prime Minister is expected to seek the cooperation of all parties eyeing passage of key bills.
The government might face hurdle in the passage of bills in the Rajya Sabha where it has only 102 members in the 245-member upper house.
In Lok Sabha, the government enjoys a simple majority with 353 members out of the 545 seats.
One of the key bills to be passed this session the 'TripleTalaq' bill which was stalled in the upper house in the last Parliament session.
Not just the opposition, but even BJP ally Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United had opposed the bill then.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress is yet to develop its team in the Parliament after its massive defeat in the national elections. The party just won 52 seats.
Even though the Congress wants to name Rahul Gandhi as their leader in the Parliament, he is insisting on stepping down as the Party president after the poll debacle.
His decision to step down from the party president's post is yet to be accepted by the party.
