New Delhi, Oct 23 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe following the latter's recent election win.

In his message, Prime Minister Modi has said that he looks forward to having a stronger India-Japan tie.

Calling Abe a ''dear friend'', Prime Minister Modi said, "Heartiest greetings to my dear friend @AbeShinzo on his big election win. Look forward to further strengthen India-Japan relations with him."

According to Japanese media, Abe is expected to win two-thirds majority in the recent polls and retain his position in the parliament.

The win will enable him to formalise the Japanese military and amend the nation's post-war pacifist constitution.

Following the results, he told media, "As I promised in the election, my imminent task is to firmly deal with North Korea.... For that, strong diplomacy is required."
