New Delhi, Dec 5 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condemned the series of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir where 11 security personnel sacrificed their lives while battling out with the militants.
"Attacks in J&K are condemnable. They are desperate attempts to derail the atmosphere of hope & goodwill as seen by increased voter turnout," Modi tweeted.

Saluting the bravery of the security personnel, the PM posted: "125 crore Indians bow to our brave Army men who sacrificed their lives. These men lived & died for the nation. We won't forget them."

Turning out to be a black Friday for the for the people of Jammu and Kashmir as many as four coordinated terror strikes in less than 12 hours hit the northern state with 11 security personnel losing their lives in a massive encounter at an Army camp near the border area in Uri sector.

A group of heavily armed and well equipped terrorists opened a heavy volume of fire with automatic weapons at an Army Camp in Mohura in Uri district at around 3 AM on Friday. Army troops from within the Camp retaliated immediately and engaged the terrorists, the Indian Army said in a statement.

The troops from the neighbouring camps, who were already in a state of high alert, immediately mobilized their QRTs (Quick Reaction Team), rushing to the site and surrounding the area.

In the ensuing fire fight, all six foreign terrorists were eliminated by the security forces.

Besides the Uri attack, three other militant attacks were reported from the state.

One civilian and another terrorists were killed in separate attacks carried out in the state.

The terror strikes are now supposedly seen as an endeavour to disrupt the peaceful Assembly polls that are being held in Jammu and Kashmir.

The first two phases of polling have seen a heavy turnout. Results will be declared on December 23.
