New Delhi, Nov 24 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday paid tributes to Guru Teg Bahdur, the ninth of the ten gurus of the Sikhs.

Modi wrote: "I bow to Guru Teg Bahadur on his martyrdom day. He was blessed with courage & the commitment to serve society. He continues to inspire."

Guru Teg Bahadur was the Ninth nanak, who died in the year 1675 in Delhi. He was said to be executed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

President Mukherjee while paying his tribute, urged the citizens to stay united.

The President wrote: "Guru Teg Bahadurji was a leader who taught us the importance of oneness of all humankind, selfless service & righteousness."

Hailing Guru Teg Bahadur's unbiased nature, President Mukherjee wrote: "His vision transcended all barriers of caste, creed, race, religion and gender."

He also urged the people to fight against any form of terrorism, while maintaining a non violent stance.

"Let us renew our commitment to peace and non-violence. Let us strongly oppose forces that seek to spread enemity and terror."

His message about oneness, comes days after the Paris terror attack, which shook the world and is currently the most discussed and debated topic all around the globe.

"Let us strive to unite all humanity under the umbrella of a common brotherhood," Mukherjee wrote.
