Thane, June 28 (UNI) A plaster of a four-storey building reportedly collapsed on Friday in Kismat Colony locality of Mumbra town in this district, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said here.

No casualty was reported in the infrastructural mishap, TMC Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) Chief Santosh Kadam said.

The civic body sealed the four-storey structure and evacuated the occupants, which include 16 tenements and a school with 16 classrooms, which was running on the ground floor, he said and added that the firemen rescued around 2,000 students from the building.

"The building was around 25-years-old and was in the C to B Category of dangerous buildings, which meant that it can be repaired and put to use," he added.

Low-lying areas have been inundated, owing to the incessant rainfalls lashing this city as well as adjoining areas, since morning, said reports.

Several cases of tree-felling and damages to the parked cars were reported from different corners of this city.

Heavy downpour in the interior parts of this district forced the closure of Sahapur–Murbad road, owing to extreme water-logging, the District Headquarter sources said.

Palghar District administration on Friday gave a cheque of Rs four lakh to the kin of eight-year-old Mahendra Badga, who was killed on Thursday, when lightning struck Vikramgadh village.
