New Delhi, Feb 14 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it is not mandatory for people to sing the national anthem when it is being played in the cinema halls. media reported.

The apex court also ruled that people do not have to stand when the national anthem is being played within a cinema or a play, according to media reports.

On Novemer 30, 2016, the Supreme Court had ruled that cinema halls across the country must play the national anthem before the screening of a film and show the national flag on screen at that time. It had also directed that people have to stand up as a mark of respect when the national anthem is played.
