Parliament: Lok Sabha adjourned amid pandemonium

New Delhi/UNI: Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday amid sloganeering by Opposition and Treasury benches over Adani issue and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent remarks on 'democracy' in UK.

Several Opposition parties have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group, and the ruling BJP an apology from the Congress parliamentarian over his remarks.

The Hindenburg Research report alleged that Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades.

The MPs from Opposition raised slogans demanding JPC probe into the Adani issue and allow Rahul Gandhi to speak in the House. Members from the ruling dispensation countered their demand by demanding an apology from the Congress MP.

The former Congress chief had earlier penned a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to allow him to speak in the Lower House over his 'democracy' remarks.

The Speaker adjourned the House till 2 pm, shortly after the Question Hour began.

"You don't want the House to function. The country wants the House to run," Birla said to the Opposition members.

Earlier, the House paid homage to freedom fighters-- Bhagat singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on Martyrs Day, and former MPs- Satyabrata Mookherjee, Sohan Potai and Rangaswamy Dhruvanarayana who passed away recently.

The House observed silence for a few seconds recalling the sacrifice of the freedom fighters, and the demise of the three former members as a mark of respect.
