Pakistani troops again violate ceasefire in Tangdhar and Naugam sectors in North Kashmir

Srinagar/UNI: Pakistani troops again violated ceasefire in Naugam and Tangdhar sectors, targeting forward posts and civilian areas in north Kashmir, a Defence ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

Pak troops initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation along LoC in Tanghdar sector last evening, Col Rajdesh Kalia said.

He said firing mortars and other weapons, Pak troops targeted forward posts besides civilian areas in the sector. However, there was no report of any loss of life or damage to property in the Pak firing.

Col Kalia said befitting response was given by Indian troops, targeting Pak army posts.

He said Pak troops opened another front and violated ceasefire in Naugam sector in Baramulla district this morning. Mortars and other weapons were fired by Pak troops, Col Kalia said adding befitting reply was given by Indian troops. Further details are awaited.

Official sources said about eight to ten villages at the LoC are under direct fire of Pak troops in Uri sector, where over 50 families have migrated to different safer places after ceasefire violation recently.

Director General of Police (DGP) and senior Army officer have recently said that Pakistani troops are violating ceasefire to provide cover to militants to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall. However, they said troops guarding the LoC are already on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt by militants waiting at launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to sneak into this side.
