Pakistani Sikh politician Soran Singh shot dead

New Delhi, Apr 23 (IBNS) Sardar Soran Singh, a leading Sikh politician and a member of the assembly of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, was shot dead by unidentified attackers in northwest Pakistan on Friday, according to media reports.

Singh, who was a special assistant on minorities to the provincial chief minister, was attacked in Pir Baba area of Buner district, Pakistani media outlets, including the Dawn newspaper, said.

The  unidentified gunmen opened fire on Soran Singh’s car on main road near a shrine as he was on his way home.

The SHO of Pir Baba town was quoted in Pakistan media as saying that “Soran Singh was shot in the head and eye,” He was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is home to a sizeable Sikh population. Singh was a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the party led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan.
