New Delhi, Feb 24 (IBNS): Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a Hindu member of Parliament from Pakistan, met Prime Minster Narendra Modi and external affairs minister  Sushma Swaraj on Sunday and assured them Pakistan was not involved in the Pulwama attack on February 14 that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

Vankwani, who is from Imran Khan's ruling PTI party, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "I assured (Sushma Swaraj) that there is no Pakistani involvement in the Pulwama attack. We should move in a positive direction, we want peace."

India and Pakistan bilateral relations are at their nadir now.

The MP was part of a foreign delegation that was invited to attend the Kumbh Mela by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Vankwani also met junior foreign minister and former Indian army chief V.K. Singh.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council issued a statement that “condemned in the strongest terms” the Pulwama attack, and named Jaish-e-Mohammad for the “heinous and cowardly suicide bombing”.
