Over 20 Congress leaders write to Sonia Gandhi on leadership issue ahead of CWC meet

New Delhi/IBNS: As the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's top decision-making body, is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting on Monday, over 20 senior leaders have written to interim-chief Sonia Gandhi over the leadership issue.

In the letter, the senior leaders sought discussion with Sonia Gandhi over the leadership issue to address the growing internal crisis in the party.

According to reports, the leaders have expressed that they are unhappy with "uncertainty" and "drift" in the party.

Sonia Gandhi, 73, who reluctantly took up the charge of party's interim-chief a year ago after her son Rahul Gandhi refused the top post following a debacle in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, does not want to continue due to her health, said reports.

Of late, there has been dissatisfaction within the party over its functioning and lack of direction.

Reports said, while there are voices in support of Rahul Gandhi, there is a significant section critical of him and feels that the party must have a relook before electing him as the party president.

They argue that Rahul Gandhi and his team lack political experience and have turned him into a non-performing asset electorally, reports add.

There is a strong need to decide who will lead the party in 2024 Lok Sabha elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they feel.
