Number of local active militants in Kashmir down to the double digits: DGP Dilbag Singh

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said the number of local active militants in Kashmir was down to the double digits.

Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh said this during a media interaction in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“As far as number of active local terrorists is concerned it had been brought to two digit number. Very less foreign terrorists- who are here to destroy Kashmir- are active as of now,” DGP Singh said, adding “efforts are on stabilize the peace and also end the terrorism.”

DGP said that “with the cooperation and support of people the terrorism is largely under control now”.

DGP Sing said the “hybrid” militancy was still a challenge.

"We have largely succeeded in facing this (hybrid) challenge and this year so far, over 100 such modules have been busted and action has been taken against them," the DGP said.

He said the handlers from across the border were luring the young boys and giving them weapons and grenades to targets and kill the innocents.

On the threat to journalists, DGP said anti pace elements sitting across the border can’t digest the peace prevailing in Kashmir and hence continue to issue threats to police, media men and even public representatives.
