'Not your business': P Chidambaram slams Army Chief for his remark on anti-CAA protests

Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram on Saturday lambasted Army chief General Bipin Rawat over his criticism of political parties opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA), asking him to not speak in matters that don't concern him, media reported.

"It is not the business of the Army to tell politicians what we should do, just as it is not our business to tell you how to fight a war. You fight war in accordance with your ideas and we will manage the country's politics in accordance with ours," he was quoted as saying by NDTV at a mega rally against the amended citizenship law in front of the Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.

Chidambarm claimed that now the top government officials were asked to speak against the CAA protests and termed it "unfortunate".

"Now, the Army general is being asked to speak up. Is this the job of the Army general? It's a shame," the new organisation quoted him. "Let me appeal to General Rawat... As you head the Army, you'd better mind your own business. What politicians will do, politicians will do," the report added.

He also spoke in support of the students agitating against the CAA and added that the new law and National Register of Citizens(NRC) are "conjoined twins" targetted against the Muslims. He claimed that India's students are agitating against CAA as they understand the "grave danger it(CAA) poses to Constitution".

On Dec 26, General Bipin Rawat had said, "Leadership is all about leading. When you move forward, everybody follows... But leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate directions, as we are witnessing with a large number of students."
