Non-locals will not be allowed to offer 'namaz' inside Taj Mahal: SC
New Delhi, July 9 (IBNS): In an attempt to preserve the Taj Mahal, India's one of the greatest architectural marvel, the Supreme court on Monday refused to allow prayers by non-locals.
The apex court noted that the Taj is one of the seven wonders of the world and it should be preserved.
The court ruled that there is no need to perform prayers at the Taj Mahal.
To preserve the monument, the district administration on Jan 24 this year, ordered that only locals with valid ID proofs will be allowed to enter inside the complex to offer 'namaz' on Fridays.
The Taj Mahal remains closed for tourists on Fridays.
The ruling allowed only residents of Agra with valid identity proofs to enter monument complex.
A petition was later filed against the ruling of the district magistrate.
The magistrate's order came following complaints that several "outsiders" including non-Indians and Bangladeshis try to enter the mosque on pretext of offering 'namaz.'
