No tax will be taken from lands fit for farming: Mamata Banerjee

Kharagpur, Apr 3 (IBNS): With only one year left to go for the Panchayat polls in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing a public gathering at Kharagpur, announced that no tax will be taken from lands which are fit for farming across the state, on Monday, media reports.

The panchayat election will be held in 2018 where TMC currently in possession of 13 out of 17 seats.

Mamata, who returned from administrative tour in North Bengal few days back, visited Kharagpur for the first time since Trinamool Congress' defeat in this assembly constituency to BJP state President Dilip Ghosh in 2016.

"I came here despite the defeat in Kharagpur assembly constituency last year and now I am saying that we (TMC) will be here always but not the other parties. We will live with dignity," she said.

Kharagpur Sadar was one of the three constituencies, where Bharatiya Janata Party could manage to win in assembly election 2016.

The TMC supremo, however, did not spare the oppositions from political attack and alleged that CPI(M) and BJP are synonymous in political field right now.

Targetting CPI(M) and BJP, Mamata said: "There is a great friendship between CPI(M) and BJP currently because they want to remove Mamata Banerjee. We (TMC) will leave the chair and walk away only when the people of West Bengal would want it. Earlier also we left a lot of positions."

Though the MLA seat of Kharagpur Sadar belongs to BJP state President, WB CM directed former Congress leader who joined TMC few months back, Manas Bhunia and TMC leader Nirmal Ghosh to take care of the area.

Ensuring development of Kharagpur, CM said: "Let the development occur in this region and people must get benefits from it."

The WB CM will announce Jhargram as a new district of the state by being present there on Tuesday.
