No more submissions, no more evidence to provide: Ex-Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh to probe panel

Mumbai/IBNS: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh filed an affidavit on Wednesday before the Justice Chandiwal Commission formed to investigate his allegations against Maharashtra's former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, according to media reports.

Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after over 12 hours of questioning early on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering case.

He will be in ED's custody till November 6.

Singh, however, stated that he had no more submissions to make before the commission other than those he had made in his letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

"I have nothing to depose before the commission and I do not wish to cross-examine any party," he said, reported NDTV.

The single-member commission of retired Bombay High Court judge, Justice (Retired) Kailas Uttamchand Chandiwal, had re-issued a bailable warrant against the former Mumbai Police commissioner for not appearing before it in September.

Mumbai Police has filed five cases against Param Bir Singh and a look-out circular was also issued against him.

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated two open inquiries against the former top cop of Mumbai after corruption allegations were made against him.

In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Param Bir Singh had accused Deshmukh of interference and using the police to extort up to Rs 100 crore every month.

He had written the letter days after being removed as the top cop of Mumbai with Deshmukh saying that some "unforgivable" lapses had been revealed in the Mukesh Ambani security scare probe under him.
