NIA questions top Kashmiri Islamic preacher in terror funding case

Srinagar/IBNS/UNI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Wednesday questioned the head of Kashmir’s largest Islamic seminary Moulana Rehmatullah Mir Qasmi, in an alleged terror funding case, sources said.

Qasmi, the Rector of the famous Islamic seminary Darul Aloom Raheemiya, was summoned by NIA in a case related to alleged funding activities of Al Huda Education Trust (AHET) in Rajouri.

Moulana Qasmi was asked by the NIA to present himself at its camp office in Srinagar.

"Moulana sahib faced questioning for several hours,” sources said.

There was no statement from the NIA on the questioning of Moulana.

In October last year, NIA raided the house of Moulana Qasmi at Bandipora.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Majlis -e-Ulama Jammu and Kashmir (MMU), a conglomerate of religious bodies, expressed serious concern over the summoning of its President and leading Islamic scholar Moulana Qasmi and termed it extremely sad.

“Maulana Rehmatullah is not only a renowned Islamic scholar but also a sincere preacher of Islam who has dedicated himself to religious, educational, and reformative services towards our society,” a statement issued by MMU said.

MMU said that such actions are causing “anxiety and anger” among the people, and urged the government to put a stop to this.
