'Need to ponder where are we heading' : Guv

Kolkata/UNI: "Need to ponder where are we heading ! " opined West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Mr Dhankhar said, " Interacted with Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta who for six hours was confined at Viswa Bharati, Shantiniketan
along with VC and others."

"He had delivered a lecture "CAA 2019: Understanding and Interpretations. Why this intolerance ! Need to ponder where are we heading! " the Governor stated.

It might be mentioned that Mr Dasgupta, Vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty and a few other BJP leaders were confined for more than six hours on Wednesday at the Visva Bharati University in Birbhum district by members of the CPI(M)-backed students' union.

Mr Dasgupta was supposed to speak on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as part of the Visva Bharati Lecture Series.

Taking strong exception to the incident, the BJP Rajya Sabha MP earlier taking to his Twitter handle had said, "There are nearly 70 people locked inside a room in
Vishwa Bharati, Santiniketan, for the crime of attending an official, university-convened lecture by me on CAA. This includes the VC. There is a howling
mob outside itching for confrontation."

"How does it feel to have a mob attack a peaceful meeting on CAA and intimidation students? This is what is happening to a meeting I am addressing at Vishwa Bharati now. Locked into room now with mob outside," he also tweeted.
