NCW issues notice to SP leader Firoz Khan for his 'sexist' remark against Jaya Prada

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI): The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday issued a notice to Samajwadi Party leader Firoz Khan and sought an explanation from him for his alleged 'sexist' remarks against Bollywood actor Jaya Prada.

In remarks that have stirred controversy, Feroze Khan, considered a close aide of SP leader Azam Khan and party president of Sambhal district, said that she (Jayaprada) would 'enthral the people of Rampur with her ghungaroos and thumkas'.

The comment came as Jaya Prada was fielded by the BJP against Azam Khan in the Rampur seat in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"The remarks are not only sexist but also extremely offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity of women in general," NCW under secretary Barnali Shome said.

Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada is a former member of SP and has even represented the party in the Parliament.

She, however, joined the BJP earlier this week. Jaya Prada has won the Rampur seat twice before this.
