The  National Commission for Women on Sunday condemned the gangrape of a Spanish tourist in Jharkhand's Dumka region.

"NCW condemns the brutal gang-rape of a Spanish tourist in Dumka, Jharkhand. NCW has been informed that accused fled from the spot. As per reports, there were 8-10 men involved. The Police have just arrested 3 accused persons in the matter. A letter has been sent to DGP from @sharmarekha to expedite the investigation in this matter and invoke charges of raped under IPC 376D. Seeing the gravity of the situation Ms. Mamta Kumari member NCW will be going to inquire the facts of the case and meet the victim and concerned Police," NCW posted on X.

A Spanish woman was gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Dumka late Friday night while she was travelling with her husband on a motorcycle, media reports said.

The incident occurred in Kurumahat, in the Hansdiha police station area, where seven men allegedly beat the couple, looted their belongings and raped her, media reported.

The woman and her partner, who had reached Dumka from Bangladesh on two motorcycles and was en route to Bihar and then Nepal, were also robbed and beaten up when they were halting for the night at a makeshift tent.

According to an NDTV report, the woman, with bruises all over her face, shared the horror in an Instagram post: "Something has happened to us that we would not wish on anyone. Seven men have raped me.

"They have beaten us and robbed us although not many things because what they wanted was to rape me."

Three arrests made so far

Police have arrested three accused and are actively working to identify and nab the remaining four suspects.

The couple, who were travelling on tourist visas, had embarked on a long tour of Asia, starting from Pakistan, and then visiting Bangladesh before reaching Dumka.
