Naresh Agrawal regrets his controversial comment on Jaya Bachchan

New Delhi, Mar 13 (IBNS): Former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agrawal, who has recently joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Tuesday expressed regrets for his controversial comment on actress Jaya Bachchan, media reports said.

Agrawal, who joined BJP on Monday, called Jaya "a dancer" while expressing his displeasure over the SP's consideration of the actress as the Rajya Sabha member over him.

Agrawal said: "The Samajwadi Party is finishing itself. I have been compared with those who dance in films."

Expressing regret for the comment, the former SP leader told media, "I had no intention to hurt anyone. I am taking back my words."

Agrawal's comment was criticised by External Affairs Minister and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.

Swaraj said in a tweet, "Shri Naresh Agarwal has joined Bhartiya Janata Party. He is welcome. However, his comments regarding Jaya Bachhan ji are improper and unacceptable."

Agrarwal was also in the centre of controversy after his comment on Kulbhushan Jadhav, who has been detained by Pakistan by suspecting him of being a terrorist.

He had said if Pakistan recognised Jadhav as a terrorrist, then they will treat him likewise. Pakistani terrorists in India should be treated in the similar manner.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed Agrawal to the party at the BJP headquarters.

Agrawal was once to close to Samajwadi Party leader and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
