Najma Heptulla will not celebrate Bakrid
New Delhi, Oct 4 (IBNS): Union Minister of Minority Affairs Najma Heptulla has decided not to celebrate Bakrid (Eid-ul-Zuha) this year, in view of the recent widespread floods and damages suffered in Jammu & Kashmir and loss of lives in stampede on Dussehra Festival celebrations in Patna.
Instead, expressing concern, she has decided to donate the amount to be incurred for Eid celebrations from her personal funds to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
Greeting on the eve of Eid, she said here on Saturday that the festival is observed by all the Muslims across the world at the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Prime Minister has already announced the package of Rs. 1000 crores for the rehabilitation of flood victims.
It may be mentioned here that in addition to this, Najma Haptulla has also announced on Sept 17, a special package of Rs. 120 crores for relief and rehabilitation of Jammu & Kashmir flood victims, under various schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
