Mysterious killings continue in Kashmir, another former militant shot in Sopore

Srinagar, June 15 (IBNS): Guerrillas on Monday killed a former militant in Sopore town of North Kashmir , which is the latest in the spate of recent attacks in the state.

According to reports, former militant Aijaz Ahmad Reshi (40) was shot dead by armed Guerrillas, this is the second killing in two consecutive days and overall fifth killing in the area in past three weeks.

Nobody has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far.

Another former militant and father-of-two Mehraj-u-din Dar was shot from point blank range at his shop in the town on Sunday morning. He breathed his last at a hospital in the town.

Earlier, a shopkeeper Khurshid Ahmad was killed at his shop in Bomai area of Sopore while a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist Sheikh Altaf-ur-Rehman was shot dead on June 9.

In the first attack, a BSNL employee was killed and two more were injured when unidentified gunmen struck a showroom in Sopore. Another person hosting a mobile tower atop his house was killed a day later.

Monday’s killing took the death toll in Sopore to six since a BSNL employee was shot dead on May 25.
 
A hitherto unheard of militant group, the Lashkar-e-Islam, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Police claims Hizbul Mujahideen is involved in spate of killings under the guidance of Local Hizb Commander “Qayoom Najar’ resident of Batpora Sopore.

Police official further said that Qayoom and his associates are doing these killing under the lesser known  militant organization “Lashkar-i-Islam”.
