At least four people have been killed and several are feared buried under the debris after an explosion hit a house where firecrackers were stocked in a godown in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, media reports said.

Seven people have been reported injured in the explosion, NDTV reported, adding that the godown was packed with crackers ahead of Diwali.

The incident happened at Banmor Nagar and all the injured are in a critical state, said Morena Collector Bakki Kartikeyan.

The official said it is still not clear if the accident occurred due to gunpowder or gas cylinder explosion.

Inspector General of Police Rajesh Chawla told news agency ANI that police and administrative officials have reached the spot and men and machines have been deployed to clear the debris.
