Most wanted coal mafia killed during encounter with police in Assam's Hailakandi

Guwahati: Most wanted coal mafia Abdul Ahad Choudhury, who fled from police custody on Saturday, was killed during an encounter with police in Assam’s Hailakandi district.

The encounter took place at Lakhinagar area in Hailakandi district at around 1-30 am on Sunday.

Gaurav Upadhyay, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hailakandi district said that Ahad was killed during an encounter with police in the Lakhinagar area.

"Police arrested Adbul Ahad Choudhury yesterday morning and he fled from police custody while the police team brought him to hospital for medical checkup. Based on reliable source information, we had set up Naka checking in the Lakhinagar area. He was armed riding on a motorcycle behind someone and when he saw the Naka checkpoint, he opened fire, we retaliated and he sustained bullet injuries," Gaurav Upadhyay said.

Injured Ahad was rushed to hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

He further said that police recovered one pistol, live ammunition from the site.
