Modi government is compromising Gandhi family's security by withdrawing SPG cover: Congress

| @indiablooms | Nov 08, 2019, at 05:03 pm

New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Reacting sharply to the India government's decision to withdraw SPG cover available to members of the Gandhi family, the Congress on Friday said that the BJP government is "compromising the lives of family members of two former Prime Ministers who died due to acts of terror and violence".

"The BJP has descended to the ultimate personal vendetta mechanism, compromising the lives of family members of 2 former Prime Ministers to acts of terror and violence," tweeted senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, minutes after the news of government's decision broke.

According to government sources, the Gandhi family- Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi- will continue to have Z-plus security by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

It is learned that the CRPF personnel has already reached Mr Gandhi's 12 Tughlak Lane residence to take over the security.

"Government should reconsider its decision to withdraw SPG cover to Gandhi family. Two members of the family Indira ji and Rajiv ji have lost their lives. When Rajiv Ji’s SPG had been withdrawn he was killed. We should be aware of this fact", tweeted another Congress leader Rajiv Shukla.

However, members of the Gandhi family did not react to the Government's decision.
