Modi disapproves Mufti's remark on Kashmir polls
New Delhi, Mar 3 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he disapproves the remark by new Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that a smooth poll in the northern state was possible because Pakistan and militants did not disrupt it and said that his government follows "zero tolerance" on matters of terrorism.
"I want to assure this House and 125 crore people of the country that the government formed in Jammu and Kashmir is based on the Common Minimum Programme and the government will run on its basis. If someone makes makes such a statement, we can never support it," Modi said in the Rajya Sabha, referring to the controversial remark made by Sayeed who took oath as the CM of J&K as a part of the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state.
"We will follow zero tolerance on matters on terrorism," the Prime Minister said while replying in the Rajya Sabha to the motion of thanks to President's speech in parliament.
Modi said the credit for the smooth conduct of elections goes to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The PM said his government is committed towards unity and integrity as the people of the northern state showed their faith on the BJP party too.
After taking oath as the twelfth chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, 79-year-old Mufti Muhammad Sayeed triggered a controversy as he gave credit to Hurriyat, militant outfits and 'people from across the border' for allowing to create a conducive atmosphere to conduct assembly elections in the state last year.
In his maiden press conference after being sworn in as the head of the PDP-BJP government, Mufti said, "I want to say this on record and I have told this to the Prime Minister that the we must also credit the Hurriyat and militant outfits for the conduct of the Assembly elections in the state."
