Itanagar/UNI: A ‘mock bomb threat preparedness evacuation drill’ was held at Pasighat Airport in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday to test co-ordination and response of all agencies in-keeping with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) requirement.

The drill began at 1100 hours. All staff at the domestic terminal were successfully evacuated and the terminal thoroughly searched within the set time and guidelines.

Staff were evacuated from the civil terminal as airport security unit personnel, along with Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad(BDDS), carried out searches for an 'explosive-laden bag' planted in the terminal building as part of the drill.

A suspicious bag planted as part of drill was located, isolated and then disposed by BDDS team while observing necessary precautions.

After the disposal of a suspicious object, bomb threat assessment committee then cleared the airport for further operations and the drill ended at 1210 hours.

During the drill, various agencies and emergency response services including airport administration, airport security unit, district police, airline security, station manager, India Air Force detachment at ALG Pasighat participated.

No passengers were inconvenienced as no flights were operating at the time of drill.

The “bomb threat mock exercise” drill will improve the emergency preparedness and coordination of all agencies involved, asserted SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh.
