Mizoram: 29 gold bars worth Rs 9.16 crore seized in Aizawl

Aizawl, Apr 22 (IBNS): The Anti-Smuggling unit of Customs Division in Mizoram’s Aizawl have seized 29 gold bars worth of Rs 9.16 crore and arrested a person in connection with it. 

Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl Customs Division James Guite said that based on intelligence input, the customs official launched an operation at Muallungthu area, outskirt of Aizawl on Saturday evening and seized 29 gold bars.

Customs officials arrested a person named 55-year-old Hualzidinga, a resident of Mizoram-Myanmar border town Champhai Venglai in connection with it.

A case has been registered vide Customs seizure case no 01/CL/IMP/CUS/As-AIZ/2018-19 and the arrested person was produced before a local court in Aizawl on Sunday.

The Customs Division in Aizawl has seized a total of 8.3 kgs of gold bars last year.
