Militant killed in Sopore encounter

Baramulla, Apr 20 (UNI) A militant was killed in an encounter which ensued after a security force patrol party was attacked in Sopore in this north Kashmir district late Friday night, official sources said on Saturday.

They said a patrol party of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was fired upon by militants at Watergam Rafiabad, Sopore, last night. The fire was returned and in the ensuing encounter a militant was killed, they said another militant managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Later security forces conducted searches in the area.

The body of the militant and arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site, they said adding the identity of the militant was being ascertained.
