Mike Pompeo meets S Jaishankar, says US-India partnership has already started to reach new heights

New Delhi, June 26 (IBNS): US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and PM Narendra Modi, on Wednesday said the US-India partnership has already started to reach new heights.

"We have bolstered our defence cooperation, we have solidified our common vision for free and open Indo-Pacific," Pompeo said while addressing a press conference with Jaishankar here.

He said India and US will continue to work together to fight against terrorism.

Pompeo arrived in India last night.

He is on a two-day visit to India.

Pompeo called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning.

Secretary Pompeo conveyed greetings of President Trump to the Prime Minister and congratulated the Prime Minister on his electoral victory.

The Prime Minister thanked Secretary Pompeo for his warm greetings and requested him to convey his thanks also to President Trump for his good wishes.

The Prime Minister reiterated the priority that he attaches to relations with the U.S. and outlined his vision for the Strategic Partnership in the new tenure of the Government and beyond, building on strong foundation of trust and shared interest.

Secretary Pompeo expressed the U.S. Government’s continued interest in building stronger relations with India and working together to realize the shared vision and goals.

The Prime Minister expressed his strong commitment to achieve the full potential of bilateral relations in trade and economy, energy, defence, counter-terrorism and people-to-people contacts.
