Mehbooba Mufti congratulates Nirmala Sitharaman on becoming Union Finance Minister

Srinagar, May 31 (IBNS): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday congratulated Nirmala Sitharaman on becoming the new Finance Minister of India.

Nirmala had served as the Defence Minister of India in the previous PM Narendra Modi-led government.

" Congratulations to @nsitharaman on her new role as Finance Minister. As the first woman to helm this crucial portfolio full time, she’s shattered the glass ceiling by all means," Mehbooba tweeted.

Sitharaman assumed charge as the Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs on Friday.

She was greeted at the office in North Block by Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs designate, Anurag Singh Thakur, Finance SecretarySubhash Chandra Garg and other Secretaries of the Ministry.

Sitharaman is the first woman appointed as the full-time Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs.

After assuming the charge, the Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs was briefed on the key initiatives and policy issues by the Secretaries of the different departments of the Ministry of Finance & Corporate Affairs and was apprised of the ongoing issues and the forthcoming challenges facing the Indian economy among others.
