Manipur ambush : Five soldiers injured, UNLFW took responsibility

Guwahati, Nov 26 (IBNS) : At least five security personnel were injured when militants ambushed a patrol party in Manipur’s Chandel district on Saturday morning.

The injured soldiers of Para Special Force deployed along the Manipur-Myanmar border were airlifted to the military hospital at Leimakhong army headquarters near Imphal.

According to the reports, the security personnel of Para Special Force were patrolling in the remote areas of Chandel district located along the Myanmar border, the militants ambushed on the party.

Firstly a bomb was exploded which triggered by the militants and also opened fire with automatic rifles while the security personnel retaliated.

“The attackers are believed to have escaped across the international border following the attack,” a top army official said.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched intensive operation against the militants.

The injured security personnel were identified as Balwant Singh, Rakesh Thakur, Vikram Salunke, W Lowong and Pankaj Singh.

Meanwhile, the coordination committee of the outfit groups of North Eastern region has take responsibility of the attack.

In a statement, ULFA (Indepent)’s C-in-C Paresh Baruah said that, United National Liberation Front of WESEA (UNLFW) had conducted a joint military command operation BARAK against the 21 Para Regiment of Indian Army between Aisi and Khunmulen area near Sajik Tampak in Chandel district at around 9:50 am.

“In the operation 5 or more army soldiers are seriously injured. We, the Joint Command of the Operation BARAK, MM Ngouba Chairman, Joint Military Commission (JMC) of CorCom and Major-General Paresh Asom the Vice Chairman cum Chief of Army Staff of [ULFA-Independent], express our gratitude to the soldier for their bravery in action against Indian Army,” Paresh Baruah said in the statement.
