Man tries to cross overflowing river, washed away
Guwahati, June 28 (IBNS): A man is feared dead after he was washed away by the overflowing Jatinga river in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
The incident took place at Harangajao area, about 40km from Haflong, the district headquarter of Dima Hasao district.
According to the reports, the incident happened while the man identified as 32-year-old Raju hailing from Ditekchora village was trying to cross the overflowing river.
Pankaj Timung, a Haflong-based journalist said that, the Jatinga river has been overflowed during the monsoon season and it has become dangerous to cross.
“The locals are facing lot of problems as there is no bridge over the river. Local villagers have urged the district council, state government for several occasions to construct a bridge,” Pankaj Timung said.
Local people have been trying to rescue the man, but he still remains untraced.
Three persons and a truck were washed away by the overflowing Jatinga river at Harangajao area three years ago.
