Man gets 20-yr rigorous imprisonment for raping minor girl

Palghar, Mar 9 (UNI) A Vasai Sessions Court in this district of Maharashtra has sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him for raping a 12-year-old girl.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Kadambini Khandagale, appearing for the petitioner, told the Court that 39-year-old Rameshkumar Sharma raped the minor girl at his residence in Vijay Nagar area of Nala Sopara town in April of 2015 and threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone.

The incident came into light when the victim girl got pregnant and narrated the ordeal to her parents.

Maximum punishment was sought on the ground that minor victim girl suffered mental trauma as well as physical hardship while abortion.

In a recent order, the Sessions Court held the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012 and forwarded a request to the District Victim Compensation Board to look into the matter and grant adequate compensation to the minor victim.
