Mamata Injury: Trinamool Parliamentary delegation to meet EC in Delhi tomorrow

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress Parliamentary delegation comprising six MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will meet the Election Commission Friday over the alleged attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Birulia in Nandigram.

Banerjee, who was in Nandigram to file her nomination for the state polls, Wednesday alleged she was the victim of an attack by four-five men, who have been linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the Trinamool.

Contradicting the claims made by Banerjee's party, several eye-witnesses said the door of the Chief Minister's car, while she was standing and greeting common people, hit a pole and smashed back her leg.

"No one had attacked her," one eye-witness told news agency ANI.

However in her video message Thursday, Banerjee did not accuse the BJP of having any role in the incident.

In a video message, the Chief Minister lying on the hospital bed said, "I suffered massive injury yesterday and I have a bone injury. Yesterday, I had pain in my head and chest.

"I would appeal to all people to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything which would cause trouble to people.

"I will be able to return to my field within two-three days. Maybe, I would have issues in my leg but I will manage. I won't skip any meetings but maybe I would take the help of a wheelchair. I would seek all of your help."

The state's ruling party chief was brought to Kolkata on Wednesday night from Nandigram and admitted to the SSKM Hospital. Her left ankle has been plastered.

While the Opposition parties barring the Left have called the entire episode a "drama", Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee and veteran Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy condemned the comments by rival politicians calling them remarks of "poor taste".
