Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal government has upgraded former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly's security cover to Z category, media reports said.

Ganguly was earlier used to get Y category security cover.

The decision to upgrade was on Tuesday taken after Ganguly's Y category security cover expired.

Now under the Z category security cover, Ganguly will be guarded by 8 to 10 police personnel.

Ganguly, who is the Director of Cricket of Delhi Capitals, is busy travelling across the country for his commitment to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.

He will reportedly be back to his city on May 21.

Presently, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and West Bengal Minister Moloy Ghatak get Z category security cover.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress MP and general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party MP and state president Sukanta Majumdar get Z-plus category security cover.
